OmniDisplay

A poster display system that stands on its own: one Store holds the pictures, any number of Screens show them — in step, with proper transitions. Drop a texture in and it's on every wall. No web account, no venue server, no setup beyond rezzing — and if you run the XTech Venue System, a Web Control add-on puts it on your dashboard.

The pieces

OmniDisplay Store The hub. A modifiable prim that holds the textures, rotates them on its timer and drives every Screen paired to it. Build it into your decor however you like — it even previews the current and next poster on its own faces.
OmniDisplay Screen A display surface. Pairs to a Store and renders whatever it's told to, with the configured transition. Modifiable — size and shape it to fit the build, or use several faces of one prim.
Swap Screen A lightweight single-face variant — instant swaps, no transition effects. Handy for small or distant surfaces where a fade would be wasted.
No secrets, no cross-talk. A Screen adopts its Store once and from then on obeys only that exact object — the sender of a message can't be forged in Second Life, so two venues in one region never interfere, and there's no channel or password to configure.

Setup

  1. Rez the Store somewhere handy — it doesn't need to be visible to visitors, but staff will touch it to add posters.
  2. Put textures in. Touch the Store to open a short drop window and Ctrl-drag textures from inventory onto the prim — or edit it and drop them into its Contents. Every texture inside that you have copy permission for joins the rotation.
  3. Rez your Screens in the same region. A fresh Screen finds the Store on its own and starts showing the rotation. Move them, copy them, take and re-rez them — the pairing sticks.
  4. Tune it (optional). The Store takes a Config notecard: a display name, seconds per poster, the transition, fade steps and a default texture. Sane defaults apply without one.
Live mode: set the swap time to 0 and the Store stops rotating — it always shows the newest texture dropped in. Perfect for a photographer feeding shots to the party wall as they're taken.

Screens & transitions

The Store pushes the transition to every Screen, so the whole venue changes in step:

swapInstant change, no effect.
blackFade down through black, fade back up.
opacityFade through transparent.
crossA true cross-dissolve between the old and new image (uses the Screen's second surface; slightly see-through mid-fade).
revealThe new image is revealed behind the old one as it fades — no see-through moment. Needs the front surface at full opacity.

A Screen works out of the box, and takes its own optional Config notecard for the fancy builds: which prims in its linkset are the two display surfaces, which faces to paint (with per-face rotation), a base opacity, and a size to apply to the display prims — thin screen prims are fiddly to drag, so you can type the width and height instead. Each screen prim can also carry its faces and rotation in its own Description, and the Screen picks up edits by itself.

Several Stores in one place

Run more than one texture set side by side — say an "Adverts" Store and an "Events" Store, each driving its own group of screens:

Web control — the add-on

Everything above runs with no web at all. If your venue runs the XTech Venue System, the OmniDisplay Web Control add-on adds a dashboard page for your boards: thumbnails of everything in the Store, show this now for event flyers, playlists built by drag and drop, and access grants for trusted staff. See Add-ons → OmniDisplay Web Control.

Troubleshooting

Screen shows nothing It pairs and renders only when it can find its display surface — a prim (or Config entry) named as the screen surface. The stock Screen works as shipped; if you rebuilt the linkset, check the Config notecard names match your prims.
Screen paired to the wrong Store Put the right Store's name in the Screen's Description; it re-pairs by itself. Screens and their Store must be in the same region.
Texture won't join the rotation The Store can only show textures you have copy permission for — no-copy textures are skipped.
Cross/reveal looks wrong Both need the Screen's second surface; reveal additionally needs the front surface at 100% opacity (at less it degrades to a cross-dissolve).
Start over Owner press-and-hold on the Store for a factory reset, same as the other XTech objects.
